Site Lock

Lock websites behind a 4-digit PIN. Keep personal sites private on a shared computer, or put a speed bump in front of distracting ones.

Lock websites with a simple PIN

Site Lock lets you lock websites behind a PIN screen. Set a 4-digit PIN once, add the sites you want to protect, and whenever one of them opens, its content is covered by a lock screen until the PIN is entered.

It is free, quick to set up and works on any site, from your email and banking to social media and video sites.

What people use it for

  • Privacy on a shared computer: keep family members or colleagues out of your inbox, messages or accounts when they borrow your laptop.
  • Focus: add a moment of friction before opening social media or news. Typing a PIN is often enough to stop the reflex click.
  • Kids and guests: a light lock on sites you would rather they did not open.

Simple to manage

Type a website address to lock it, or lock the site you are on with one click. Lock now covers the current tab straight away, even if it is already open. Locked sites are listed in the popup, where you can remove them at any time, and you can change your PIN whenever you like. The PIN is stored as a SHA-256 hash, not as plain text.

Unlock once per session

Tick Remember me for this session when you unlock, and the site stays open in that tab until it closes. You will not be asked again on every page.

Know its limits

Site Lock is a convenience lock inside your browser, not a security system. Someone who can open Chrome’s extension settings, another browser or another user profile can get around it. For children’s devices, combine it with your operating system’s parental controls.

Tip: Open the DevToolkit popup and press Z, then Lock this site to protect the page you are on.

Site Lock questions

Is Site Lock free?

Yes. Site Lock is part of DevToolkit's free plan.

What if I forget my PIN?

Locked sites cannot be opened without it, so choose one you will remember. If you forget it, removing and reinstalling the extension clears Site Lock along with your other DevToolkit data.

Does it block subdomains too?

Site Lock matches the website address you enter, so add each domain or subdomain you want to protect.

Can someone get around it?

Yes, if they can change Chrome's extension settings or use another browser. Site Lock is meant for privacy and focus, not as a replacement for parental controls or account passwords.
