A UTM builder that keeps your tracking consistent

UTM Builder adds tracking tags to any link so you can see in Google Analytics, or any other analytics tool, exactly which newsletter, ad or social post brought each visitor. It lives in the DevToolkit popup, starts with the page you are on, and turns a fiddly copy-paste job into a few clicks.

All five UTM parameters

  • Source (utm_source): where the traffic comes from, such as google, facebook or newsletter.
  • Medium (utm_medium): the type of channel, such as cpc, email or social.
  • Campaign (utm_campaign): the campaign name, such as spring-sale or launch.
  • Term (utm_term): the paid keyword, if there is one.
  • Content (utm_content): which link or ad version was clicked, such as header-cta or banner-a.

Quick buttons fill in common sources like Google, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and Email.

Clean data from the start

Analytics treats Facebook, facebook and FaceBook as three different sources, which splits your reports. Turn on Force lowercase and every value is written the same way, every time. Use this page fills in the current address, so you never tag the wrong URL.

Templates and history

Save your common combinations, such as a weekly newsletter or a paid social campaign, as templates. A template keeps the tags without the link, so you can apply it to any page in one click. Your last ten links are kept in History to copy again or tweak.

Who uses it

  • Marketers tagging every link in an email, ad or social post.
  • Founders and small teams who want to know which channels really work.
  • Agencies keeping naming rules consistent across many clients.

Tip: decide on a naming rule, such as lowercase words separated by hyphens, and save it as templates. Consistent UTMs are the difference between clear reports and a mess of near-duplicate rows.

Tip: Turn the finished link into a QR code with QR Code Generator to track print and offline campaigns too.

UTM Builder questions

Is UTM Builder free?

UTM Builder is part of DevToolkit Pro, a one-time payment from $25 with no subscription.

Which UTM parameters are required?

Source, medium and campaign are the ones analytics tools rely on. Term and content are optional and useful for paid search and A/B tests.

Do UTM links affect SEO?

Use UTM tags for external campaigns, not for links between your own pages. Internal UTM links can split sessions in analytics and create duplicate URLs.

Does it shorten links?

No. It builds the full tagged link. Use your favourite link shortener afterwards if you need a short version.
