Edit website text right on the page

Live Text Editor lets you edit website text right on the page in Chrome. Click a headline, a button, a price or a paragraph and start typing, the same as in a text editor. A small bar at the top of the page reminds you that editing is on, and Esc or Exit switches it off.

The changes are visual only. They live in your browser tab until you reload, and nobody else ever sees them. That makes it a safe playground for words.

Why edit website text in the browser?

  • Test copy in context: a headline that reads well in a document can wrap badly on the page. Try it where it will live and see how it fits.
  • Mock up changes for a client: change a price, a call to action or a menu item, take a screenshot, and send a picture of the proposed change in minutes.
  • Check long and short text: paste a very long product name or a translated sentence to see whether the layout copes.
  • Prepare clean screenshots: replace real names, emails or numbers with sample ones before you capture a page for a tutorial.

Simple on purpose

There is nothing to learn. No panel, no settings, just click and type. When you need more than words, such as colours, fonts, spacing or moving elements, the Visual CSS Editor in DevToolkit Pro picks up where Live Text Editor stops, and can keep your changes for next time.

It is free and works on almost any website. Pair it with Full Page Screenshot or Mockup Generator to turn your edited page into an image you can share.

Tip: Open the DevToolkit popup and press G to start editing the page you are on. Reload the page to undo everything.

Live Text Editor questions

Is Live Text Editor free?

Yes. It is part of DevToolkit's free plan.

Does it change the real website?

No. Your edits only exist in your own browser tab. The website and its other visitors are not affected, and reloading brings back the original.

Can I save my text changes?

Live Text Editor is for quick, temporary edits. To keep changes on a site between visits, use the Visual CSS Editor, which can save edits per page or per site.

Can I change fonts and colours too?

Live Text Editor changes words only. For fonts, colours, spacing and layout, use the Visual CSS Editor in DevToolkit Pro, a one-time payment from $25.
